Klingspor had some beautiful canary wood live edge slabs a couple months ago. I didn’t have a project in mind, but bought one because it was too pretty to pass up. After much thought, I decided we needed a new TV stand, featuring the canary wood slab. The slab measured about 58” long by 18” wide, and had a whole spectrum of colors. Just about any species of wood would match something in the slab. So, I decided to see how many different species of wood I could use in my TV stand. So, the legs are rift-sawn white oak, secondary top is cherry, the front butterflies that hold the cubbyholes are padauk, the cubby frame is curly maple, with mahogany inside. The bottom shelf is sapele with double through-tenons pinned with yellow heart. Oh, and there’s a little bit of ash helping hold the cubbyholes under the cherry top. Hidden along the back is a wire and cord management system which is my wife’s favorite feature.
